Taylor’s Intern Experience

My CityBeat Experience

“For ten weeks over the Summer I had an internship at CityBeat Baltimore. It was one of the most heart changing experiences I have ever had. God worked in my heart through the many facets of CityBeat. During my first week I went on a prayer walk with Pastor Jared and Ashley on a Friday afternoon. I will never forget this day because my heart broke so much to see that there was so much happening in the Carrollton Ridge Community, a community I only live ten minutes away from. There is a lot to be done in Baltimore. CityBeat is a place that is right in the midst of it, being the hands and feet of Jesus.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays I helped with their Bread of Life ministry, their soup kitchen. This was a time where I could really engage with those in the community and build relationships with people. At first I would think to myself, “What could I possibly say to someone who is dealing with addiction or someone who is homeless?” In these moments I became fully dependent on the Holy Spirit to lead me in the words that I would say. I saw how simply giving someone a smile or remembering their name brought them so much joy. I had beautiful moments where I got to pray with those in the community, believing that God will perform a miracle in their life. CityBeat is an organization that is all about serving their community out of genuine love for God’s people. Through my weeks there I was constantly inspired by the leadership of CityBeat.

My favorite moments at CityBeat were our Adopt-A-Block days. The soup kitchen would be open, we would be giving out clothes, and our kids program would be happening. I loved seeing the community come together and seeing the children smile. You never know how you serving and sacrificing your time for others will impact someone. If you are someone who is passionate about serving or want to grow in your heart for serving, intern at CityBeat. If you are someone who is passionate about using your gifts to grow God’s kingdom, intern at CityBeat. My experience at CityBeat is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life wherever I end up. It taught me a lot about how the smallest acts of kindness can go a long way. It can save someone’s life. It can bring them closer to Jesus. My time at CityBeat allowed me to step out of my comfort zone, knowing that God is working. Everything I do is from God working in and through me. If you intern at CityBeat you will definitely come out a different person and God will teach you things you never thought of.”
